MugglesAlso known as: joint, pre-roll
What does “Muggles” mean?Long before the Harry Potter series used this term to refer to non-magical humans, “muggles” were, quite simply, joints. A 1931 Time Magazine article details the rising popularity of cannabis and specifically refers to muggles, along with “reefers” and “Mary Warners,” as terms used to describe cigarettes filled with ground, dried cannabis. Almost unsurprisingly, J.K. Rowling was not aware of the word’s history, as she simply chose it because of how silly it sounded.
“If joints were still called Muggles, it would make reading Harry Potter absurd.”
