Arizona voters opted to legalize adult-use cannabis during the 2020 election after a similar ballot initiative was narrowly defeated in 2016. Adult-use sales launched officially in the Southwestern state in early 2021, making it the fastest state to go from its legalization vote to the launch of a regulated adult-use marketplace—the move was spearheaded initially by the state’s robust medical cannabis program. Adult Arizonans are also allowed to cultivate up to six cannabis plants per person with a maximum of 12 per household.
