Multiple Sclerosis

This category concerns the research regarding Cannabis and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Cannabis’s effects on MS are very positive. Sativex, a CBD:THC combined oral spray, has been tested extensively in clinical conditions with very positive results for muscle control and spasticity in sufferers of MS.

What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS)?

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the nerves of the brain and spinal cord where the insulating agent, called myelin, that coats nerves and keeps the signals separate either is destroyed by the immune system or is not produced in sufficient amounts. The disease will cause many physical side effects, including double vision, muscle weakness or trouble with coordination.

What is known about MS and Cannabis?

The research to date reveals that cannabis has several interactions with MS. CBD alone has been shown in studies to reduce the inflammatory aspect of MS’s nerve degeneration, slowing the progress of the disease. CBD and THC sprays have been shown to reduce spasticity in several studies as well, allowing better motor control. CBD as a pain reliever has also shown great promise in improving MS patients quality of life.
