Synonyms for Marijuana


While the whole plant produces THC and cannabinoids, cannabis users typically smoke the flowers to get high — these buds contain significantly more THC than other parts of the plant. Different names for different consumable forms of marijuana have sprouted from various regions and age groups. On top of that, there are scores of slang words that have evolved over the years. Bhang

Weed, Marijuana, Ganja, Tea
Definition:
Bhang is frequently used as a synonym for marijuana flowers, though the word itself originally refers to a cannabis-infused beverage produced in the Indian subcontinent. This beverage is occasionally prepared with raw, unheated flowers and is not considered a drug. Sometimes, however, it is heated during preparation and thus made with activated THC that will get the consumer very high.

Definition:
That good weed. Bomb weed is weed that gets you high to the point that you feel like you're going to explode. Although that might seem risky to non-consumers, true stoners know that this is a good thing.

Definition:
The cannabis plant’s flowers. This is the part of the plant that you smoke. Once the cannabis is suitably grown, cannabis farmers have to dry the buds and cure them properly before they can be smoked. Because this is the part of the plant you smoke, people often equate the terms “bud” and “weed.”

Definition:

Definition:
A highly concentrated cannabis extract. The precise definition of "dabs" varies by your location, but it is widely regarded as a more efficient, cleaner way to consume cannabis. There are many ways of creating marijuana concentrates that would qualify as "dabs," with closed loop extraction creating the most efficient concentrates.

Definition:

Ganj, Ghanja
Definition:
Another widely-accepted name for cannabis. The term ganja is often attributed to Rastafarian culture, but it is in fact the Hindi word for hemp, introduced to Jamaica by Indian indentured servants. Lately, its usage in western society has become incredibly mainstream.

Definition:
Another popular slang term for marijuana, the name "green" is often used as a sort of code for talking about weed when you're worried the NSA is listening in on your phone conversations about drug deals, or perhaps reading the text messages between you and your dealer.

Hydro

Hydroponic, Indoor
Definition:
Short for hydroponic, this system is a plant-growing technique that does not require soil. All the plant's nutrients are delivered through nutrients in the water, as opposed to the conventional method of topsoil. The traditional topsoil-farming methods require lots of land and space, but a hydroponic system is much more efficient in terms of plant-to-space ratio. The term hydro can also be another synonym for cannabis, but only when the weed has been grown in a hydroponic system.

Definition:
Indica refers to one species of the cannabis plant, the other commonly-known species being Sativa cannabis. While recent research suggests that the distinction between these two species may not be as prevalent as once thought, the distinction is still commonly made in the industry because marijuana culture is so accustomed to it. Indica plants are often shorter than sativa plants, and the Indica high is a heavier body high than Sativa.

Definition:

Growing practices are getting more specified and cannabis growers are paying more attention to their practice in order to make the best weed possible. Kind usually costs more, but is worth it in the end because you don’t have to smoke as much and the high is much more intense.

Kush is a name for a subcategory of cannabis indica.  Hindu Kush and OG Kush are the two standout types of kush that exist in the cannabis world.  Hindu Kush is from the Afghani and Pakistani region and it is more wide-leaved and nourished.  OG Kush is an American hybrid, which is notoriously long-limbed and lemon-scented. Both strains, however, can be found in a wide variety of hybrids.

The term and fictional lady character of ‘Mary Jane’ is a play on the sound of the pronunciation of “marijuana.”  When pot was more taboo, using the term ‘Mary Jane’ was an undercover way of referring to the plant.  However, as today’s culture grows and matures the taboo nature has dropped.  Also, the term ‘Mary Jane’ has become so popular most everyone knows the reference.

The slang term was popularized through the movie “Reefer Madness," an infamous propaganda piece that attempted to demonize the cannabis plant and its users.

Sungrown is used to describe the method of growing superior cannabis using the sun as the major light source instead of artificial lighting used in indoor and greenhouse cultivation that is associated with very high electrical use. Sungrown cultivation implies that photoperiod control is used to produce a higher quality of cannabis than what is commonly referred to as outdoor cannabis, which is a lower grade of cannabis that was grown without the intention or care of sungrown and is often allowed to flower in the fall with the natural cycle.

Definition:
Trim is the leftover bits of marijuana leaf and smaller buds that you collect huge piles of when trimming a freshly-harvested plant. Trim can often be used to make extracts like hash because you usually end up with so much of it and it still contains many valuable cannabinoids — the natural concentration of cannabinoids in such ancillary parts of the cannabis plant, however, is just not as concentrated.
