Words for Being High or Stoned

Everything is good, everything is beautiful — these are some of the many words and phrases stoners use to describe the euphoric sensations you can experience under the effects of marijuana.

Many people attribute these positive effects of the cannabis plant to the development and growth of the hippy movement and the opinion held by marijuana subcultures that there is a general goodness to the universe and to most human beings. While the hippies may have dominated the scene in the 60’s, however, many of the slang terms listed below find their roots (no pun intended) in more recent cannabis culture.

Baked

Being stoned, high, toked up
Definition:
When you're baked, you're quite stoned indeed. The term most likely comes from weed being associated with increased paranoia, which could easily lead one to the morbid thought of being baked in an oven. Generally, however, being baked often only means you won't feel much like getting off the couch for another twenty minutes or so, at least.

Blitzed

Blazed, high, stoned, lit
Definition:
Blitzed is most likely a permutation of the word "blazed," although there is no traceable etymological connection. Someone probably was too high to know what they were saying when the phrase "blitzed" was first coined. It may refer to a heightened state of intoxication beyond what is typical, due to a particularly strong batch of weed that causes effects immediately upon inhalation. "Blitzed" calls to mind the "blitzkrieg" of WWII and "blitzing" in American football terminology.

Cooked

Baked, stoned, high
Definition:
Marijuana slang culture seems to really dig culinary themes — probably because of the never-ending munchies pandemic that is a stoner's daily struggle. In any event, when you're cooked it's a lot like being baked, only instead of waiting to rise in an oven you might be thrown into a stir fry or scrambled up for breakfast. Or instead of being really high, you're just really high and using a different word to describe it.
