What does “Skins” mean?

Used about rolling papers, especially in London and the United Kingdom. It is also used as a verb in the term ‘skin up’ which means to roll a joint. The origin of this term is murky, but it could be a reference to the similarity that a function of a paper has to the function of skin for the human body. The term was popularized with American teens after the drama of the same name was released for television.

Example usage:

“Let’s swing into the shops and grab some skins before heading out.”
